Knowledge Representation of Intelligent Public Services through a Semantic Model

    Get PDF
Today citizens make intensive use of mobile communication technology, and they demand to public services providers for complex and sophisticated information. To meet these demands, the governments' services agencies must orchestrate a lot of information from various sources and formats, and deliver them in the data terminals that people commonly use: computers, net-books, tablets and smart-phones. To overcome these problems, we propose a deductible model for conceptual representation of the organizational units of the State and his services, based on ontologies designed under the Linked Open Data principles. This model allows automatic extraction of information through machines, that support governmental decision-making processes and giving to citizens a comprehensive access to find and make formalities through intelligent agent.Sociedad Argentina de Informática e Investigación Operativa (SADIO

BioSStore: A Client Interface for a Repository of Semantically Annotated Bioinformatics Web Services

    Get PDF
Bioinformatics has shown itself to be a domain in which Web services are being used extensively. In this domain, simple but real services are being developed. Thus, there are huge repositories of real services available (for example BioMOBY main repository includes more than 1500 services). Besides, bioinformatics repositories usually have active communities using and working on improvements. However, these kinds of repositories do not exploit the full potential of Web services (and SOA, Service Oriented Applications, in general). On the other hand, sophisticated technologies have been proposed to improve SOA, including the annotation on Web services to explicitly describe them. However, these approaches are lacking in repositories with real services. In the work presented here, we address the drawbacks present in bioinformatics services and try to improve the current semantic model by introducing the use of the W3C standard Semantic Annotations for WSDL and XML Schema (SAWSDL) and related proposals (WSMO Lite). This paper focuses on a user interface that takes advantage of a repository of semantically annotated bioinformatics Web services. In this way, we exploit semantics for the discovery of Web services, showing how the use of semantics will improve the user searches. The BioSStore is available at http://biosstore.khaos.uma.es. This portal will contain also future developments of this proposal

A Fine Grain Sentiment Analysis with Semantics in Tweets

    Get PDF
Social networking is nowadays a major source of new information in the world. Microblogging sites like Twitter have millions of active users (320 million active users on Twitter on the 30th September 2015) who share their opinions in real time, generating huge amounts of data. These data are, in most cases, available to any network user. The opinions of Twitter users have become something that companies and other organisations study to see whether or not their users like the products or services they offer. One way to assess opinions on Twitter is classifying the sentiment of the tweets as positive or negative. However, this process is usually done at a coarse grain level and the tweets are classified as positive or negative. However, tweets can be partially positive and negative at the same time, referring to different entities. As a result, general approaches usually classify these tweets as “neutral”. In this paper, we propose a semantic analysis of tweets, using Natural Language Processing to classify the sentiment with regards to the entities mentioned in each tweet. We offer a combination of Big Data tools (under the Apache Hadoop framework) and sentiment analysis using RDF graphs supporting the study of the tweet’s lexicon. This work has been empirically validated using a sporting event, the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship. The experimental results show a clear correlation between the predicted sentiments with specific events during the championship

AMMO-Prot: amine system project 3D-model finder

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Amines are biogenic amino acid derivatives, which play pleiotropic and very important yet complex roles in animal physiology. For many other relevant biomolecules, biochemical and molecular data are being accumulated, which need to be integrated in order to be effective in the advance of biological knowledge in the field. For this purpose, a multidisciplinary group has started an ontology-based system named the Amine System Project (ASP) for which amine-related information is the validation bench. RESULTS: In this paper, we describe the Ontology-Based Mediator developed in the Amine System Project (http://asp.uma.es) using the infrastructure of Semantic Directories, and how this system has been used to solve a case related to amine metabolism-related protein structures. CONCLUSIONS: This infrastructure is used to publish and manage not only ontologies and their relationships, but also metadata relating to the resources committed with the ontologies. The system developed is available at http://asp.uma.es/WebMediator

KA-SB: from data integration to large scale reasoning

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The analysis of information in the biological domain is usually focused on the analysis of data from single on-line data sources. Unfortunately, studying a biological process requires having access to disperse, heterogeneous, autonomous data sources. In this context, an analysis of the information is not possible without the integration of such data.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>KA-SB is a querying and analysis system for final users based on combining a data integration solution with a reasoner. Thus, the tool has been created with a process divided into two steps: 1) KOMF, the Khaos Ontology-based Mediator Framework, is used to retrieve information from heterogeneous and distributed databases; 2) the integrated information is crystallized in a (persistent and high performance) reasoner (DBOWL). This information could be further analyzed later (by means of querying and reasoning).</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In this paper we present a novel system that combines the use of a mediation system with the reasoning capabilities of a large scale reasoner to provide a way of finding new knowledge and of analyzing the integrated information from different databases, which is retrieved as a set of ontology instances. This tool uses a graphical query interface to build user queries easily, which shows a graphical representation of the ontology and allows users o build queries by clicking on the ontology concepts.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>These kinds of systems (based on KOMF) will provide users with very large amounts of information (interpreted as ontology instances once retrieved), which cannot be managed using traditional main memory-based reasoners. We propose a process for creating persistent and scalable knowledgebases from sets of OWL instances obtained by integrating heterogeneous data sources with KOMF. This process has been applied to develop a demo tool <url>http://khaos.uma.es/KA-SB</url>, which uses the BioPax Level 3 ontology as the integration schema, and integrates UNIPROT, KEGG, CHEBI, BRENDA and SABIORK databases.</p
